The UK’s looming customs union vote

Will parliament impose a landmark defeat on Theresa May over the customs union in the next few weeks? As MPs and peers return from their Easter break on Monday, the question is much on the minds of pro- and anti-Brexiters alike.

The immediate focus at Westminster on this first day back is on the missile strikes in Syria and how the PM handles that issue in the Commons. 

But this week, the House of Lords (where the government lacks a majority) is likely to impose a series of defeats on the government in amendments to the EU Withdrawal bill.
