James C. Orr is co-founder and Executive Director of the Bretton Woods Com¬mit¬tee. In addition, he is managing partner of James Orr Associates, a Washington-based government policy consulting firm whose clients are international financial services firms, central banks, and government ministries. Prior to the formation of the firm and the Committee, Mr. Orr served both Democrats and Re¬publicans during eight years as legis¬lative counsel to the Financial Services Com¬mit¬tee and the Intern¬ational Trade and Inter¬national Develop¬ment Subcommi¬ttees of the U.S. House of Represen¬ta¬tives.
He also serves as Chairman of MicroFinance International Corporation. MFIC is a financial services company dedicated to providing high quality, affordable services to under-served people and markets. MFIC offers Internet-based remittance services, personal loans, mortgages and insurance services, among other products.
He is a director of TechnoServe, Inc. – a non-profit, aid organization helping entrepreneurial people in developing countries build businesses and create employment, income and opportunity for their communities.
He has advised several national and international commissions and lectured at universities in the United States and abroad. He has performed special¬ized consult¬ing assignments for leading private financial institutions, the World Bank, the IMF, the IDB, and government ministries. He is a speaker on political, fi¬nance and trade issues, as well as on inter¬na¬tional relations and has appeared as a commentator on CNN, CNBC, MSNBC, Bloomberg, C-Span and other networks. His writings in¬clude books, articles and op-eds on the activ¬ities of the multi¬lat¬eral develop¬ment banks, regu¬lation of the U.S. financial sector, developing country issues and U.S. national, political and security issues.
His undergraduate degree is in economics from Wesleyan Univer¬sity, and he holds a master’s degree in inter¬na¬tional eco¬nomics from the School of Advanced Inter¬national Studies (SAIS), Johns Hopkins University.
