Deputy Director
Carmen Mezzera has served as the Deputy Director of the Bretton Woods Committee since August 2011. Previously, she was Executive Director of the Fair Trade Federation, the trade association that strengthens and promotes North American organizations fully committed to fair trade. At the Federation, Ms. Mezzera managed all of its strategic, administrative, and programmatic aspects, developing and executing an aggressive Strategic Plan, overhauling its administrative and financial systems, and overseeing the logistics for the 2010 Fair Trade Futures Conference in Quincy, MA. She also co-chaired the Canadian Committee on Fair Trade and served as Member-At-Large of the Fair Trade Towns USA National Steering Committee.
Previously, Ms. Mezzera served as the education and outreach manager of the Atlantic Council of the United States and as the director of alumni relations for the School of International Service (SIS) at American University (AU). While at the Atlantic Council, she acted as the primary point of contact for the 2004 Pan-Atlantic Student Summit, held in conjunction with the NATO summit in Istanbul, and represented the Council at numerous international and domestic events before prime ministers, presidents, government officials, non-governmental organization representatives, educators, media, and students. During her time at AU, she managed events on five continents for alumni, students, and friends of the School and participated in the launch of the largest fundraising campaign in the University’s history.
Graduating Phi Beta Kappa from SIS, Ms. Mezzera stayed on to complete her master’s degree with a focus on international organizations and sustainable development. In the course of her studies, Ms. Mezzera provided analyses for NATO’s Partnership for Peace in Mons, Belgium and in the United Nations Development Program Washington Office.
Among her volunteer work, Ms. Mezzera has served as Vice Chair of the Board of Directors and Chair of Public Outreach for Ten Thousand Villages of Alexandria, VA and Director-At-Large of the Abyssinian Fund in Harlem, NY. She received the 2008 Rising Star Alumni Award from American University.
Sonia Ada Ihenachor
Office Manager & Membership Coordinator
Ada Ihenachor is the Office Manager & Membership Coordinator of the Bretton Woods Committee. In this position she is responsible for facilitating program initiatives, coordinating membership affairs and managing logistics for Committee events.
Ada holds an M.A. in International Affairs with concentrations in international development, political economy and regional security studies and a Bachelor of Laws degree. In the recent past, she has served in a congressional liaison and policy research capacity for the Health Resources and Services Administration, an agency of the Department of Health and Human Services. She also worked for a D.C. based academic non-profit developing and coordinating domestic and international educational programs. Ada possesses foreign policy experience spanning across Africa, the Middle East, Europe and South East Asia. In 2010, she received an Excellence in Leadership award from the National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education.
