Axel Weber

BWC would like to welcome new member Axel Weber, president of the Center for Financial Studies. Axel has also been the director of the CFS, and he has been a senior fellow since 2011.

Axel has been president of the Deutsche Bundesbank, a board member and chairman of UBS Group AG, a visiting professor at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, and a member of the governing council of the European Central Bank. In recent years he has also acted as a member of the steering committee of the European Systemic Risk Board and as a member of the steering committee of the Financial Stability Board.

Axel holds a diploma in economics from the University of Konstanz and a doctorate in economics from the University of Siegen. He held Professor positions at the University of Cologne, Goethe University Frankfurt, and the University of Bonn. Weber is a member of the advisory board of Goethe University Frankfurt.

Axel served as German Governor at the International Monetary Fund. He has been a member of the German Council of Economic Experts, the expert advisory panel to the Deutsche Bundesbank, the Board of Directors of the Bank for International Settlements, the G7 and the G20 Ministers and Governors, and the Grant Commissioning Panel of the Economic and Social Science Research Council of the United Kingdom.
