Dear BWC Members,
Happy New Year! While the events of the past week in Washington have been disheartening, we remain optimistic that 2021 will be a year of progress and growth, especially for the Bretton Woods Committee.
2020 was a transformative year for the Committee. We established a new Board of Directors and a larger, global Advisory Council. We re-envisioned our mission and program model and welcomed new Secretariat staff, Committee members, and programmatic partnerships. Amid the pandemic, the Committee found novel ways to engage its members, highlighted by a successful International Council virtual conference. Sadly, we said farewell to our former Chairman, James D. Wolfensohn, who passed away in November.
2021 will be another year of revitalization. The new year will kick off with the launch of our new program model, including a Sovereign Debt Special Project Working Group and a Legislative Working Group. A Future of Finance Working Group will be established later in the year. The Committee’s programming and events will increasingly focus on the issue-areas covered by these working groups.
Member engagement is central to our new program model.
- Flagship Conferences: Mark your calendars for the Committee’s two flagship conferences! Annual Meeting will be held virtually throughout the week of April 5. International Council will be held in-person in Washington, DC on October 13 from 2-6pm ET, pending coronavirus developments.
- Member Meetings: Biannual Member Meetings will provide an opportunity to connect, provide input, and share ideas with fellow members and Committee leadership. Member Meetings will take place alongside BWC’s flagship conferences.
- Written Contributions: We will regularly solicit contributions to the BWC blog. Interested in sharing? See submission guidelines for our latest blog call here. We aim to use the Committee’s website and social media platforms to share your work and ideas. Please continue to share!
- Other Events: Webinars and in-person events will be announced throughout the year. Please check our website for updates.
To achieve our ambitious agenda, we need your engagement and support. Please contact the Secretariat ([email protected]) with any questions or suggestions. With your help, we can make 2021 the Committee’s most productive, impactful year yet.
Sincerely,
Emily Slater
Executive Director
