This week we would like to welcome new member Mark Bergman, president of 7Pillars Global Insights.

Mark stepped down in July 2021 as a partner of the international law firm Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP. Now through 7Pillars Global Insights, he comments and briefs on a range of current political, geopolitical, and regulatory topics, including mitigating the effects of climate change and combatting disinformation, extremism, and weaponization of hate.

While at Paul, Weiss, he spent over thirty years handling capital markets offerings and other securities law matters and over twenty years handling cross-border transactions. He gained extensive experience in advising on corporate governance, regulatory compliance and public mergers and acquisitions matters. He was involved in cross-border transactions across Europe and Asia, as well as in Sub-Saharan Africa. He worked twice in the firm’s Paris office, and in 2001 opened the firm’s London office, which he led for twenty years. He is now Of Counsel to the firm.

Mark was a frequent speaker at conferences on cross-border capital markets, corporate governance, and regulatory topics, and an author of articles and client alerts on a range of securities law topics. He was a founding member of the Paul, Weiss ESG Practice Group (and a principal author of the firm's ESG alerts), and he was one of the firm’s two points of contact on Brexit-related matters and EU regulatory matters.

Mark is a member of Chatham House and a supporter of its US and the Americas Programme. He is also a member of the advisory council of the International Crisis Group, a member of the development board of the Royal United Services Institute, and a member of the board of directors of the Institute for Strategic Dialogue. He is also a member of the founders circle of the Obama Foundation and a member of the Leadership Now Project.

Mark has also been a Deputy National Finance Chair and member of the National Finance Committee of the Democratic National Committee.

We appreciate his support for our work and mission, and we look forward to his engagement!
