Recent Highlights

With scarce public finances directed to servicing a soaring sovereign debt instead of supporting investments for a more resilient economy, low-income countries are doomed into a cycle of unsustainable debt, further fueled by climate impacts, and by the disruptive shocks of cyclical financial crises. Keyu Jin, John Lipsky, Susan Segal, and Mark Walker, spoke with Bill Rhodes about the imperative of addressing these pressing issues through structural reforms to the sovereign debt architecture.

Last July, the Bretton Woods Committee participated in a Center for Global Development meeting with other think tanks to exchange perspectives on the multilateral development bank (MDB) system.

The long-awaited MC12 conference convened global trade experts to discuss the four main “pillars” of negotiation facing the international trade sphere: fisheries subsidies, agriculture, the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic (including the waiver to the Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of International Property Rights, or TRIPS waiver) and WTO reform, and development & Least Developed Country (LDC) issues.
