Broad-Based Coalition of Policy Experts Urges Congress to Pass IMF Reforms

WASHINGTON, D.C. (March 10, 2014) —Today 190 policy experts, business and academic leaders, and former Senate-confirmed appointees who had oversight responsibilities for organizations like the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank delivered a unified message to Congress: promptly enact IMF quota reform legislation.

On January 16, the Bretton Woods Committee (BWC) –in partnership with the Center for Strategic & International Studies (CSIS) – welcomed over 80 members and friends to a panel discussion on Building an IDA for the Future: Perspectives on the 17th Replenishment of the International Development Association. A bipartisan group of top former Cabinet, executive, and legislative officials recently urged Congress to maintain current overall U.S. leadership in the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The signers to the letter, coordinated by the Bretton Woods Committee, include former Treasury Secretaries Nicholas Brady, Henry Paulson, and Lawrence Summers, as well as national leaders from both parties who support the IMF, because of the returns it brings to our nation.
