On May 15, 2020, the Bretton Woods Committee hosted a virtual conference, In Conversation: FDMDs on IMF Response to COVID19, which outlined the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) response to the coronavirus pandemic. Featured speakers Geoffrey Okamoto, First Deputy Managing Director of the IMF, and John Lipsky, former First Deputy Managing Director of the IMF, discussed the IMF’s response to the crisis to-date and looked ahead to future challenges and opportunities.

The Henry Owen Memorial Award honors Bretton Woods Committee co-founder Henry Owen, and hopes to inspire new generations of thoughtful young leaders to follow Ambassador Owen’s example as both a scholar and diplomat. This Award has been made possible thanks to the generous contributions of Bretton Woods Committee members, friends, and the Owen family.

For this year’s Henry Owen Memorial Award essay contest graduate students were asked how global coordination and effective multilateral governance can push back against global fragmentation.

The Committee invites all members to submit their thought leadership on COVID-19 via the BWC Blog.

The Bretton Woods Committee Blog aims to help global leaders envision how to evolve and strengthen the current rules-based economic system and encourage policymakers to recommit to the “spirit of Bretton Woods” and the value of international economic cooperation. Calls for submissions vary dependent upon timely global events but submissions are encouraged on any relevant topic on an ongoing basis.
