The event featured speakers James Bacchus, Chair, Global Practice at Greensberg Traurig and former Congressman (D-FL), and Jim Kolbe, Senior Transatlantic Fellow at German Marshall Fund and former Congressman (R-AZ).

U.S. Supreme Court to Hear IFC Case

In October 2018, the U.S. Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the case Budha Jam et. al. v. IFC (International Finance Corporation). The case will interpret the validity of immunities of international organizations under the U.S. International Organizations Immunities Act (“IOIA”).

U.S.-China Trade Tumult: Implications for Global Trade Rules

On July 17, 2018, the Bretton Woods Committee hosted a virtual conference U.S.-China Trade Tumult: Implications for Global Trade Rules, which explored issues central to the current trade dispute between the United States and China, and the wider ramifications for the World Trade Organization and multilateral trading system. Featured speakers included Shang-Jin Wei, the N.T. Wang Professor of Chinese Business and Economy at Columbia University, and David Dollar, John L. Thornton China Center Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution.

On January 23, 2018, the Bretton Woods Committee hosted a virtual conference Regional Spotlight: Venezuela on the Brink? that explored the causes of the economic and political crisis in Venezuela, the regional and global ramifications of the instability, and the appropriate role for the international financial institutions and global community in responding.
