With the nine countries having formally established CBDCs for their currencies and more than 100 countries are at various stages of conceptualization, design, and implementation to date, a new monetary era is clearly in front of us. This report lays out the policy and technology design choices that factor into a CBDC while calling for the BIS and FSB to take the lead on international standard-setting.
