Postponed due to inclement weather.
The Bretton Woods Committee coordinates annual educational seminars for each chamber of Congress to provide Congressional staff – and, where possible, Members of Congress – with a non-partisan source of knowledge about the work and evolution of the international financial institutions (IFIs) and the importance of U.S. leadership in them.
These seminars consist of 4-6 speakers, including representatives from the IFIs themselves as well as knowledgeable Committee members, to present information on the various institutions. With significant time for questions and answers, these 90-minute seminars explain:
• The distinctive work and operations of IFIs, such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF), World Bank Group, and other multilateral development banks (MDBs);
• How the international financial institutions play a major role in assuring international financial stability and advance U.S. economic and security objectives; and
• IFI-related issues that are expected to surface during the year.
The 2015 seminars will feature the following speakers:
• The Honorable Jim Kolbe, BWC Co-Chair and Senior Transatlantic Fellow, German Marshall Fund of the United States; Former Representative of Arizona’s 8th District
• Andreas Bauer, Assistant Director, Strategy, Policy and Review Department, International Monetary Fund (IMF)
• Jay Heimbach, Special Representative for North America, World Bank Group
• Julie Katzman, Executive Vice President, Inter-American Development Bank (invited)
• Clay Lowery, Vice President, Rock Creek Global Advisors
