Bretton Woods Committee Taking Action on IDA Budget Cuts
Body
Recently the Bretton Woods Committee informed its members and friends of the detrimental cuts to the World Bank’s International Development Association (IDA) budget, as proposed in the U.S. House of Representatives State and Foreign Operations bill for fiscal year FY 2018.
The Senate Appropriations Committee just announced $51.2 billion in topline spending for its FY2018 State-Foreign Operations (SFOPS) bill, a significant improvement on the House bill, but has not yet given specific guidance on IDA funding. Both the House and Senate will likely vote on their proposed foreign operations budgets in September. This means now is a critical time for Committee members to communicate to U.S. lawmakers the message to keep the United States’ commitment to IDA.
